Laughter is the best medicine to anything, well not to awkwardness but to other things such as pain, rejected, etc(end of thinking capacity). Everyone has a different sense of humor. But I guarantee that you’ll be giggling yourself silly while watching the funny anime moments of some of the most hilarious series ever.
I know that you all want to laugh during these harsh times. Well I do. So here are my top 10 favorite comedy animes that will make you laugh your heart out. Comedy, humor, comicality, absurdity, hilarity—all of these are right here embodied within this assortment of series.
10. Ouran highschool host club
Haruhi Fujioka is a bright scholarship candidate with no rank or title to speak of—a rare species at Ouran Academy, an elite school for students of high pedigree. When she opens the door to Music Room #3 hoping to find a quiet place to study, Haruhi unexpectedly stumbles upon the Host Club. Led by the princely Tamaki Suou, the club—whose other members include the “Shadow King” Kyouya Ootori; the mischievous Hitachiin twins, Kaoru and Hikaru; the childlike Mitsukuni Haninozuka, also known as “Honey”; and his strong protector Takashi “Mori” Morinozuka—is where handsome boys with too much time on their hands entertain the girls in the academy.
The characters are rich, complex and loveable and care deeply for one another, but not so much that they can’t antagonize and prank each other in the process. So if you’ve got too much time on your hands, then please, step into this series and allow the hosts to pamper you just like their actual clients. This is a real must-watch anime.
9. Maid sama
Being the first female student council president isn’t easy, especially when your school just transitioned from an all boys high school to a co-ed one. Aptly nicknamed “Demon President” by the boys for her strict disciplinary style, Misaki Ayuzawa is not afraid to use her mastery of Aikido techniques to cast judgment onto the hordes of misbehaving boys and defend the girls at Seika High School. However, despite her tough-as-nails appearance, she secretly works part-time at a maid cafe in order to support her family. Unfortunately, her hard-earned reputation is threatened when the popular, attractive, and somewhat impassive Usui Takumi takes an interest in her after discovering her in a maid uniform after school.
This one of the best rom-com ever. Kaichou wa Maid-sama! is far from your regular romance anime and that is EXACTLY why you’ll love it. While most anime if they have a romance element tease you by implying character feelings with subtle interactions but no real physical connection such as a kiss and without spoiling much Kaichou doesn’t exactly have a lot of physical connections either but it’s just so bluntly put you love it. It literally defines your anime dream romance which is why you should watch Kaichou wa Maid-sama! now!
After dying a laughable and pathetic death on his way back from buying a game, high school student and recluse Kazuma Satou finds himself sitting before a beautiful but obnoxious goddess named Aqua. She provides the NEET with two options: continue on to heaven or reincarnate in every gamer’s dream—a real fantasy world! Choosing to start a new life, Kazuma is quickly tasked with defeating a Demon King who is terrorizing villages. But before he goes, he can choose one item of any kind to aid him in his quest, and the future hero selects Aqua. But Kazuma has made a grave mistake—Aqua is completely useless!
Konosuba is the type of show to draw you into watching more not becuase of the plot or the premise but because of the characters. The plot/premise has been done over and over but the characters. Not an episode went by where I wasn’t laughing my ass off. Regardless, I had a blast and am very much looking forward to more.
Nichijou primarily focuses on the daily antics of a trio of childhood friends—high school girls Mio Naganohara, Yuuko Aioi and Mai Minakami—whose stories soon intertwine with the young genius Hakase Shinonome, her robot caretaker Nano, and their talking cat Sakamoto. With every passing day, the lives of these six, as well as of the many people around them, experience both the calms of normal life and the insanity of the absurd. Walking to school, being bitten by a talking crow, spending time with friends, and watching the principal suplex a deer: they are all in a day’s work in the extraordinary everyday lives of those in Nichijou.
The animation is incredible, the characters are interesting and fun, and the skits in the show always made me laugh. If that sounds like something you might enjoy (and even if it doesn’t!), I recommend you give Nichijou a try. I don’t regret a second of my time spent on it – even though most of those seconds were not spent laughing.
6. Daily lives of highschool boys
Roaming the halls of the all-boys Sanada North High School are three close comrades: the eccentric ringleader with a hyperactive imagination Hidenori, the passionate Yoshitake, and the rational and prudent Tadakuni. Their lives are filled with giant robots, true love, and intense drama… in their colorful imaginations, at least. In reality, they are just an everyday trio of ordinary guys trying to pass the time, but who said everyday life couldn’t be interesting? Whether it’s an intricate RPG reenactment or an unexpected romantic encounter on the riverbank at sunset, Danshi Koukousei no Nichijou is rife with bizarre yet hilariously relatable situations that are anything but mundane.
This show is entirely built on it being a story about dudes and bros and their misadventures. Danshi Koukousei no Nichijou went far above and beyond my expectations. It has got Hilarious jokes and situations, in both setup and execution, Stellar voicing and relatable, varied cast of characters and it has real comedy.
5. Mr. osomatsu
The majority of the Matsuno household is comprised of six identical siblings: self-centered leader Osomatsu, manly Karamatsu, voice of reason Choromatsu, cynical Ichimatsu, hyperactive Juushimatsu, and lovable Todomatsu. Despite each one of them being over the age of 20, they are incredibly lazy and have absolutely no motivation to get a job, choosing to live as NEETs instead. In the rare occurrence that they try to look for employment and are somehow able to land an interview, their unique personalities generally lead to their swift rejection.
To tell the truth when I first saw this anime I just burst out in laughter, I just kept on laughing because it was just that funny. Mr. osamatsu is actually a sequel to the original Osomatsu-kun which was created in 1988 by the Gag Manga King Fujio akatsuka.
4. Grand blue
A new life begins for Kitahara Iori as he begins his college career near the ocean in Izu city, full of excitement for his new life. He will be moving into his Uncle’s diving store “Grand Blue.” There he finds the beautiful ocean, beautiful women, and men that love diving and alcohol. Will Iori be able to live his dream college life?
Though I’ve been harping on it, Grand Blue Dreaming is legitimately a good show. You can almost always find at least one or two jokes that make you laugh out loud every episode, which is quite the feat for a comedy, in my opinion but nonetheless, Grand Blue remains a great slapstick comedy.
3. Arakawa under the bridge
Kou Ichinomiya is the son of a wealthy businessman who holds a firm belief in his elite status. As such, he is determined to avoid becoming indebted to anyone; but one day, after a run-in with some mischievous kids on Arakawa Bridge, he ends up falling into the river running underneath. Luckily for him, a passerby is there to save him—but now, he owes his life to this stranger!
This anime is mostly weird which makes it a great comedy anime. Strongly recommended for people who enjoy absurdity, philosophy and politics in their comedy. The anime humor is not for everybody, its alienating nature could be an uncanny for some people. But if you are tired of the same romantic comedies, It wouldn’t hurt to try Arakawa Under the Bridge.
Ishiyama High is a school populated entirely by delinquents, where nonstop violence and lawlessness are the norm. However, there is one universally acknowledged rule—don’t cross first year student Tatsumi Oga, Ishiyama’s most vicious fighter.
One day, Oga is by a riverbed when he encounters a man floating down the river. After being retrieved by Oga, the man splits down the middle to reveal a baby, which crawls onto Oga’s back and immediately forms an attachment to him. Though he doesn’t know it yet, this baby is named Kaiser de Emperana Beelzebub IV, or “Baby Beel” for short—the son of the Demon Lord!
This anime is perfect for people who wants a good laugh. This one of those anime which never get old no matter how much time you’ve watched it. I re watched beelzebub almost 4 times and I still find those jokes funny. I’m sure that this an anime you’ll never forget.
The Amanto, aliens from outer space, have invaded Earth and taken over feudal Japan. As a result, a prohibition on swords has been established, and the samurai of Japan are treated with disregard as a consequence.
However one man, Gintoki Sakata, still possesses the heart of the samurai, although from his love of sweets and work as a yorozuya, one might not expect it. Accompanying him in his jack-of-all-trades line of work are Shinpachi Shimura, a boy with glasses and a strong heart, Kagura with her umbrella and seemingly bottomless stomach, as well as Sadaharu, their oversized pet dog. Of course, these odd jobs are not always simple, as they frequently have run-ins with the police, ragtag rebels, and assassins, oftentimes leading to humorous but unfortunate consequences.
Gintama really is a special franchise. It takes a certain kind of star quality to make someone want to come back to your anime and breeze through every episode with ease and it did that for me. I loved it the first time I saw it and I love it even more now. The characters are fantastic, the seiyuu cast is one of my favorites in all of anime, the jokes leave me howling, and the drama leaves me feeling more connected to the characters I’m attached to.
In my opinion I think that Gintama is the king of anime comedy. I mean what doesn’t it have, aliens, funny faces, samurais, assasins, it has everything. So if you haven’t seen this anime, watch it. Because you’ll really appreciate it.
I hope you like this list. When I started writing this list it brought a lot of memories back. When I first started watching anime I didn’t know what to expect from it but when watched all this funny anime I found the reason why I still watch anime.
