Anthology. An anthology is a collection of literary works chosen by the compiler; it may be a collection of plays, poems, short stories, songs or excerpts by different authors. If you know me, you know that I love anthology stories. There’s something about reading different stories from the same book. Anthology mangas are not really popular so I wanted to share a few of them with you. Manga anthologies usually consist of collections of short manga stories by either single or multiple manga artists.
It’s always fun to read mangas when different mangakas collaborate on the same concept. If you talk about manga anthologies you would remember Junji Ito, I’m talking about the master of horror mangas of course. Although I haven’t read many of his works(because it’s too scary), if you want to read a good horror anthology, you won’t be disappointed with his works.
Now to what this post is actually about.
“Toutosugite Yomenaaaaaaai!!” 4P Short Stories
Starting with my one of my favorites. I don’t have much of a review to give for these anthologies since the stories are really short but I’ll try my best. All I can say is that this is 51 chapters full of heart-fluttering and the only bad thing about it is that 51 chapters is not enough for me.
Toutoi. 4P Short Stories
This is similar to “Toutosugite Yomenaaaaaaai!!” 4P Short Stories but a little short with just 25 chapters.
A volume collection of sweet, short and fun 4 pages manga for everyone to enjoy and adore.
From the author of My little monster. This is not the best anthology but definitely worth a try. It contains 6 oneshots – Himikoi, During a Stormy Night, The Glass-bead Bridge, The Red Turtle’s Dream, A Perfect Day for a Picnic and The Hideout of Those Two.
Senken Shounen Syndrome: Sora Tanpenshuu
From one of my favorite authors Sora Mizuki who’s also coincidentally the author of my favorite one shot which is included in this anthology. The five chapters include – Chinmoku Girl no Little Cry, Senken Shounen Syndrome, Yankee Shoujo to Hinekure Danshi, Miren Boy Miren Girl and Tsuiraku JK to Haijin Kyoushi Bangaihen.
And ending with my favorite of all time. Sugars by Mika Yamamori, one of the first anthology mangas I’ve read and I remeber this is the manga that got me into anthologies. You may remember Mika yamamori from her works like Daytime Shooting Star and Tsubaki-chou Lonely Planet. Sugars is a collection of short stories that take place in school settings and revolve around a certain group of students. Between girls hoping to catch the attention of the boys they like, plenty of sweets, a dash of forbidden love with teachers and unexpected romances with classmates, the school year is guaranteed to be an interesting one..
