Key visual for Chainsaw man

If you’re unfamiliar with Chainsaw man, it is a Shounen Jump manga created by Tatsuki Fujimoto which took over the world by storm. With the first part ending with 97 chapters in 2020, it attracted a lot of fans from all over the world for it’s unique story and gory art. The story of Chainsaw man follows Denji, a young man who finds himself employed by the mob to simply scrape by and afford himself, and his dog Pochita, three meals a day while putting a roof over their heads.

Denji has a simple dream—to live a happy and peaceful life, spending time with a girl he likes. This is a far cry from reality, however, as Denji is forced by the yakuza into killing devils in order to pay off his crushing debts. Using his pet devil Pochita as a weapon, he is ready to do anything for a bit of cash.

Unfortunately, he has outlived his usefulness and is murdered by a devil in contract with the yakuza. However, in an unexpected turn of events, Pochita merges with Denji’s dead body and grants him the powers of a chainsaw devil. Now able to transform parts of his body into chainsaws, a revived Denji uses his new abilities to quickly and brutally dispatch his enemies. Catching the eye of the official devil hunters who arrive at the scene, he is offered work at the Public Safety Bureau as one of them. Now with the means to face even the toughest of enemies, Denji will stop at nothing to achieve his simple teenage dreams.

Why Chainsaw man Deserves the hype

Chainsaw Man Will End Next Chapter with Major Announcement

I have read the manga and I get why it’s this hyped up. It’s a crazy manga that is filled with adrenaline-filled gory fights and there is not a point you’ll regret reading this. Chainsaw man is a really unique manga unlike any series you’ve ever read before. It’s a messed up ride with fun, depression, dark comedy, gore, love triangle which is filled with emotions.

Chainsaw Man is far darker than the typical Shounen Jump series such as Demon slayer or My hero Academia. The series doesn’t look or feel like any other Shounen before it, with an odd mix of gross-out humor and unexpectedly heartfelt moments even with all the violence. Denji himself is unlike any other Shonen character currently in the market, with him battling through bloody adventures while not only seeking the simple things in life but attempting to get a kiss from the opposite sex as he cuts his way through a series of devils.

Each story arc begins and ends in a different way from the last, making them completely unpredictable. There is nothing that you would expect that would come true because the characters always do something they wouldn’t do. The series also don’t shy away from it’s off-beat humor which makes this manga a game-changing Shounen.

Started serializing in 2018, Chainsaw man has gained unimaginable popularity in the last year. The graphic rip-and-tear fights, paired with a unique and funny story about devils makes for one great manga. The end of the first part in 2020 has only increased it’s massive popularity as now fans eagerly await the second part and the Anime adaptation by the distinguished Studio MAPPA.

A release date for the anime by Studio MAPPA is yet to be revealed, but based on their shows with the likes of The God of High School, Jujutsu Kaisen, and the final season of Attack On Titan, fans are put at ease when it comes to the upcoming anime adaptation.

Studio MAPPA is one of the main reasons for Chainsaw man’s massive hype. Studio MAPPA’s success with Jujutsu Kaisen is no secret, hey managed to pull of one of the best anime of the year. One more reason why Studio MAPPA is favored is because both Chainsaw man and Jujutsu Kaisen are mangas from Shounen jump and since they already succeeded in creating a entertaining Shounen anime, the fans hope that they would be able to replicate the same success with Chainsaw man.

Another reason is mainly because of colorful and unique designs by Tatsuki Fujimoto in the manga and viewing the same in an anime would be whole another level. As well as its cast of developed characters who refrain from falling into tired tropes and cliches are also another thing Tatsuki Fujimoto in this manga including the way it revels in crude humor and incredibly graphic gore.

And why Chainsaw Man has seen such tremendous popularity is that the theme of struggling to attain some semblance of comfort in this strange and cruel world is something we can all resonate with. We can never accurately predict what will happen next because the series always manages to subvert the readers’ expectations and the gritty art style blends amazingly well with the storytelling.

With it’s astounding popularity, the anime will push the franchise further into the mainstream, increasing the already burgeoning fandom to new heights. There’s no saying that it won’t become the next big anime in the coming years. Here are 10 ways Chainsaw Man Is The Next Big Anime.

Chainsaw man – Official trailer

What are my opinions on this? Like I said I already read the manga and it does deserve the hype. From the plot to the characters to the art, everything was worth reading for and I can’t wait for the anime. So why haven’t I written a review on it, well I read it during December when I was inactive for awhile and I wanted to write about it when I returned but I just lost all the feeling I had while reading it but now that’s not a problem because I’m finally going to reread it soon to hype myself(again) for the release of the anime.

What are your thoughts on the Chainsaw man anime, is it over-hyped. Let me know in the comments.

Than you for reading.

  1. It doesn’t really look like my kind of show to an extent I would say it seems a bit overhyped, but I guess that’s just my preference. I don’t buy into it becoming the next Demon Slayer or My Hero Academia in terms of global popularity but I can still see it doing well. The animation is certainly going to be sharp at least

    • I think the same can be said about Jujutsu Kaisen, not many people expected it blow up and even being the anime of the year. I guess it all depends on how well Mappa executes it, even if the anime does okay, it certainly is going to create some kind of hype for the second part of Chainsaw man. So yeah, really curious to see how it’s going to be.
